Abraham Walkowitz Russian-American, 1878-1965
11.25 × 8.75 in
In ‘Untitled’ 1932, Walkowitz crafts a memorable image. Tessellating lines are centred on the page and form geometric shapes. Faint pencil marking reveal the artists forward planning, carefully assessing each motion before positioning confident pen lines over the top. Near the bottom of the page, placed within the composition, the artists signature rests below a curve.
Reflecting his fascination with modern life, the piece highlights his exploration of pure abstraction. The underlying structure of the forms reveals Walkowitz’s engagement with the work of Kandinsky, whose fragmented non-objective abstract works influenced his artistic development.
