JC Gallery, London, Arthur Dove: extraction, not abstraction, 2024
Expanding from a central point, an autumnal spirit is captured within this fabulous work.
Dove’s ongoing fascination with nature is illustrated by inky mark-making over layers of primrose yellow, brownish green, orange and russet. He renders the patterns of nature with abstracted lines, spirals, circles, scribbles and dashes. At this time in Dove’s life, after moving out of New York to settle in Centerport and immerse himself in rural life, he created many of these small, intimate studies, often working directly from the energy and spirit of the natural world before him.
