Arthur Dove: Extraction, not Abstraction

Overview

Recognised as a significant figure in the history of modern art in the United States, Arthur Dove (1880 - 1946) pioneered a new artistic language for the twentieth century and created innovative works of art, breaking new ground with abstraction. Credited as being the first abstract American artist, Dove’s work could happily fit alongside some of the most contemporary works of today, with his earthy palette and distorted forms. Dove remains to this day, an artist who influenced many of his contemporaries and altered the course of American art with his ability to examine and portray his affinity with nature in full abstract form.

This long overdue exhibition will be the first time the artist has had a solo focus and collection of works showcased outside of the United States. Timed perfectly amidst a renewed interest in Dove’s life and oeuvre, this exhibition serves as a fitting celebration of one of the most pivotal figures in the American avant-garde.

Showcasing a number of works both oil on canvas and works on paper, this hugely exciting exhibiton will present artworks that have never been shown on public view before.
